Appointments

Requesting an appointment

To request a GP appointment, regardless of urgency, please contact us online and submit a ‘medical request’ via Accurx. We will endeavour to respond to all requests on the same day.

For all other appointments such as for nurses, healthcare assistants or for long-term condition reviews please call the surgery on 0208 887 8354.

Appointments changes – total triage

As of 01/02/2024, we have changed our appointment to a total triage system. Receptionists will not be able to directly book a GP appointment for you but hey can help you with completing the short form to request an appointment. It is very important that you ensure that you contact number is up to date on your medical record (if you change your address or phone number you must let us know).

Your appointment

We have a variety of appointments available both here at the surgery as well as local hubs at evenings and weekends.

However you choose to contact us, we may offer you a consultation:

  • by phone
  • face to face at the surgery
  • on a video call
  • by text or email

Appointments by phone, video call or by text or email can be more flexible and often means you get help sooner.

Cancelling or changing an appointment

To cancel your appointment:

Please ensure that you cancel any appointments you no longer require. Each week almost one in every 10 patients do not turn up for their appointments resulting in all others having to wait longer for appointments. This wastes the equivalent of a full time doctor’s appointments each day. Patients who repeatedly fail to attend appointments will be asked to find another doctor.

If you arrive late for your appointment you will be asked to re-book. Patients arriving late for booked appointments are the main reason surgeries do not run on time and you are kept waiting past your appointment time. If you have booked a double appointment it is the time of the first appointment that will be used to decide this.

Interpreters

If you think you may need help with translation, you are very welcome to bring a friend or relative with you (18 and over only please). Alternatively, let our reception staff know when you book and ask for a double appointment. All our doctors and nurses have access to the Language Line phone translation service to help you. If you would like a British Sign Language interpreter, we are very happy to book one for you. Please give us as much notice as your problem allows.

If you need help when we are closed

If you need medical help now, use NHS 111 online or call 111.

NHS 111 online is for people aged 5 and over. Call 111 if you need help for a child under 5.

Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency. This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.

If you need help with your appointment

Please tell us:

  • if there’s a specific doctor, nurse or other health professional you would prefer to respond
  • if you would prefer to consult with the doctor or nurse by phone, face-to-face, by video call or by text or email
  • if you need an interpreter
  • if you have any other access or communication needs

Appointment reminders

We use an automated text messaging system to send out reminders for booked appointments and health promotion messages (including reminders to book appointments for medical checks). You can also text back to cancel if you no longer need your appointment. Text cancellations are handled by a computer system, please just send the word “Cancel” to the number quoted and do not send any other message to this number as they may not be seen for some time. You can also cancel online if you’ve signed up for online bookings.

Please make sure you tell us if you change your mobile phone number so we can continue to send these messages. If you do not wish to receive reminders, please tell the reception staff and they will amend your record to switch the feature off.

Out of hours service

Out of hours services for the surgery are provided by Barndoc. They can be contacted for help or advice between 6:30pm and 8am weekdays and all day at weekends and on bank or public holidays. They be contacted through the NHS 111 service.

Home visits

Home visits are only for house bound or seriously ill patients who are unable to come to the surgery. Our doctors typically see four patients in the practice in the time it takes to do a single home visit. For this reason, we ask our patients to come to the practice if at all possible. Please phone on the same day before 10am if you feel you require a home visit. A doctor will phone to assess your condition before making a visit.

Extended access to appointments

Patients registered with our practice can access routine GP and nurse appointments via local enhanced access hubs at Evergreen Surgery when we are closed. We cooperate as part of a group of practices called a Primary Care Network (PCN). The services runs 6:30pm-8pm on weekdays and 9am-5pm on Saturdays. Appointments can be arranged via our reception team but if you need to rearrange or cancel your appointment, you can contact the hub directly by calling 0208 887 8355 (during the above hours of operation).

Patients registered with an Enfield practice can also access appointments at local hubs 5pm-8pm on Saturdays and 8am-8pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays. Appointments are booked via our reception team at our practice or via NHS 111. The local Hubs are based at Carlton House Surgery in Enfield Town, the Woodberry Practice in Winchmore Hill and Evergreen Surgery in Edmonton Green.

Both of these services operate to maximise the numbers of appointments available to patients registered with our practice. Consultation records for appointments you have at the hub will be sent back to the practice to ensure you medical records are up-to-date and accurate.
